Emma Lavelle scored the winning goal in overtime to lead 97 Sereno White to a 1-0 victory over the Scottsdale 97 Blackhawks on Saturday at Reach 11 in the winners’ bracket final of the U13 girls State Cup soccer tournament.

The loss drops the Blackhawks into the losers’ bracket, where they will need a win Sunday in order to earn another shot at Sereno. Scottsdale will face San Tan Legacy Red, 1-0 winners over Gilbert Arsenal Premier, Sunday at Reach 11. The winner of that game would have to beat Sereno twice next weekens for the title.

The first half saw even and physical play and was played mostly in the middle of the field. The Blackhawks were unable to get a shot off, while Sereno only had three.

In the second half, players battled intense winds, and again, neither side was able to score.

Near the end of the first half of overtime, Lavelle took a high free kick that sailed over the Blackhawk goalie’s outstretched hands.
