Nikki Walts scored the winning goal for the Sereno 96 White on Saturday to beat the DFSC 96 Red 2-1 in the winners’ bracket semifinal game of the U14 girls 2010 State Cup soccer tournament at Reach 11 Sports Complex.

Sereno advances to play Banat 96 Gold, 4-0 winners Saturday over AZ Rush 96 Nike, in next weekend’s winners’ bracket final.

Gabby Stoin scored for Sereno in the third minute of the first half, getting her team an early 1-0 lead.

For the rest of the half, Sereno stayed on the DFSC side. Brittany Horn took the only shot for DFSC in the first half, creating a good chance off a quick counter attack.

Nikki Walts scored for Sereno with five minutes left in the first when she curved a corner kick over the goalie’s head for a 2-0 lead.

Sabrina Majerczyk got DFSC on the board with a goal she scored off a hard free kick over the Sereno goalie’s hands from well outside the 18-yard box.

Sabrina’s goal gave the DFSC a second wind, and they played hard until the end. Sereno also picked it up and managed to hold them defensively while also creating a few more dangerous scoring chances for themselves.
