Desert Kaos narrowly defeated AZ Dynasty 5-4 Sunday in the USSSA Phoenix Open Qualifier 16u championship game at Desert West thanks to a stellar performance at bat and in the circle from Brooke Williamson.

After Kaos went down 3-0 in the top of the second inning, Williamson drilled a two-run home run over the fence in right-center. In the next at-bat, Maggie Gard nailed a double to left that came just a few feet short of clearing the wall. Gard tied the game at 3-3 a few plays later thanks to two wild pitches.

In addition to pitching three previous complete games in the tournament and slugging the homer, Williamson pitched 5 2/3 innings in relief to gain the title victory. She struck out three, walked one and allowed two earned runs.

Williamson started the game on the bench but entered as a reliever in the top of the first when a scary play knocked starter Amanda Cole out of the game.

With one out and runner on first, a line drive struck Cole in the face. After some attention from trainers and coaches, Cole was able to walk off the field. She was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The Dynasty started the game off right, putting up three runs in the first two innings. Taylor Udan and Caitlyn Cromer reached base to start the inning before scoring on consecutive singles by Lacey Fitch and Amanda Owens.

The team plated its third run in the second inning when Liz Baier tripled and scored on Ashley Johnson’s double.

Kaos centerfield Jessica Kline saved a possible run in the inning when she caught a fly in the next at-bat and doubled off Johnson at second with a strong throw.

Kaos put up two insurance runs in the fourth inning. Ashley Soos started it off with a one-out double and quickly scored on an RBI single by Becca Hahn. Hahn then scored a few plays later on a Kira Iler single.

Alexis Camacho nearly propelled the Dynasty back into the game in her final two at-bats. The speedster tripled and scored in the fourth inning to shorten the Kaos lead to 5-4.

In her next at-bat in the bottom of the sixth inning, Camacho singled with one out and made it all the way to third before Williamson induced a fly out to center to end the game.
