Game stories from all four age-division championships Sunday in the USSSA East Side Show Down softball tournament at Big League Dreams.

Fever 1, Pure Adrenaline 0

Scottsdale Fever pitcher Brooke Hughes scattered four hits and struck out six to shut out Pure Adrenaline in the 14u title game.

Cheyenne Noli drove in the game’s lone run a line-drive RBI single to right field in the first inning.

Fever’s Brittany Gonzalez had a spectacular defensive play at first base in the bottom of the third when she made a diving catch for a line drive hit by Calee Scott.

Cyra Wentz had two singles for Adrenaline. Breianah Riojas, Marisa Boyd, Karsen Gentry and Alicia Gil each singled.

“They played hard until the end,” said Fever coach Scott Steverson. “We just played like a team and everybody did their part.”

Desert Ice 8, Shockwave 3

The Shock jumped on the Ice quickly in the first inning of the 18u title game, scoring three runs off pitcher Kaity Greco. After that, Greco held the Shockwave scoreless.

The Ice quickly turned the tables on the Shockwave by scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. They scored at least one run in the first five innings. Elysia Mess started the good day at the plate with and an RBI single in the first.

Sun Cats 9, Lady Diablos2

Mara Kemmes pitched a gem of a game for the Sun Cats, striking out 10 Lady Diablos while allowing only two runs in six innings in the 12u finale.

Arianna Felix drove in a run for the Sun Cats with a double and helped her team jump out to a quick three-run lead in the first. Reina Budi started the scoring off for the Sun Cats by stealing home after a pitch hit the backstop.

Arianna Acedo notched two RBI for the Sun Cats, one on a triple.

The Lady Diablos scored twice in the sixth, marking the only real difficulties that Kemmes had all game long. Marena Bristol had a single and notched an RBI for the Lady Diablos. Rosemary Pitones also had a single.

Ladycats 6, Blaze 0

The Queen Creek Ladycats routed Blaze in the 16u title game, scoring five runs in the first two innings.

Hailey Maher was the first batter for the Ladycats and hit a double. Maher later stole third base with Alyssa Gibson at bat. Gibson hit a popup down the line in right that fell in for a single and one RBI.

Gibson came up big again in the bottom of the second with an in-the-park solo home run. Ashleigh Ingraham hit an RBI-single in the fifth.

“We were playing small ball with just a lot of base hits,” said Ladycats coach Stephanie Mejia.
