12u Division

The Punishers held off a game Prescott Lady Hawks club 6-4 in the 12u title game.

With the score tied 3-3 heading into the bottom of the fourth, the Punishers scored three times, then held off the Lady Hawks – who threw out two runners at the plate in the fourth – in the fifth and final inning to win the championship.

Mariah Jaquez’s bunt single ended up in two fourth-inning runs for the Punishers, as Briana Romero and Dez Muniz scored on two errors by the Lady Hawks.

Jaquez then stole third and tried to score on a wild pitch. Prescott catcher Andie Gonzales hustled back to the screen and flipped a toss to pitcher Toko Miller, who applied the tag for the first out.

Mika Rodriguez then drew a walk and stole second, with the throw going into the outfield. Rodriguez advanced to third on the throw, then headed for home when the Lady Hawks overthrew third trying to nab her. Gonzales caught a one-hop throw from Alyssa Lopez, however, and applied a quick tag on Rodriguez for the second out, keeping the score at 5-3.

Macy Zimnick, Ana Howard and Kiki Kennedy drew three straight walks, however, loading the bases. Zimnick scored the final run of the inning on a pitch to the screen before Miller got a strike out to end the inning.

The Lady Hawks mounted a rally in the top of the fifth and final inning. Kendall Schwartz led off with an infield single on a hard grounder, and Carly Ross followed with a walk. Two outs later, Ross scored on a pitch to the screen to make it 6-4. Gracie Schweitzer drew a walk and stole second, putting the go-ahead run in scoring position before Punisher pitcher Rachel Gawdun induced a pop up to end the contest.

It was the third game of the day for the Prescott team on a hot, sticky day.

16u Division

Pure Adrenaline capped a perfect 4-0 weekend with a 10-2, run-rule win over AZ Impact, a 14u team playing up.

Adrenaline scored four times in the first and never looked back. They had eight hits in the second inning alone.

Pitcher Kenna Naseman gave up two unearned runs, walking none and striking out four, two in the final inning including the last out of the game.

Kristen Wynn, who drove in several key runs in Adrenaline’s four games, was 2-for-2 in the championship.

Naseman scored two runs and had three singles.

Ashley Harper had a triple and Hannah Price a double.

Erin Hayes and Challis Roles each had a single and a walk. Alexis Arias and Hailey Dunaway both singled.

The title was the first-ever for Pure Adrenaline.

Impact advanced to the title game with an 8-6 win over the 16u AZ Panthers.
