After five innings as a pitchers’ duel Sunday, the 18u final of the City of Phoenix Winter Windup turned into a slugfest that the Scottsdale Heat won 7-3 at the Rose Mofford Softball Complex.

Desert Shock’s Cary Ann Hall and the Heat’s Sarah Ray matched each other zero for zero until the top of the sixth, when Emma Harman hit a three-run homer over temporary  fence in left for the Shock.

The Heat rallied in the bottom of the sixth, scoring sevens runs, helped by two errors and a wild pitch.

Courtney Jones opened the inning with a walk. The Heat were able to load the bases for Allison Schullo who hit a ground-rule double to right-center to tie the game, and Jordan Conover hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3 to give the Heat the lead for good.

“They really responded,’’ Heat coach Craig Zarrow said.

The Heat advanced to the final with a 7-1 win over Desert Heat behind Jessica Green’s dominant pitching performance.

Natalie Arvizu pitched a strong game as the Wolves capped an unbeaten weekend with a win in the final.

“We had great hitting and great defense all weekend,’’ said Mark Kelly, who was subbing for coach Ken Johnson.

The Wolves’ fine defensive plays included an outfield assist by Blakely Koziol. Koziol, playing left, threw to catcher Marissa Geith to cut down a runner at the plate early in the championship game.

Second baseman Danali Johnson  and shortstop Lexi Nixon each made outstanding plays for the Wolves.

Nixon had three hits in the final. Sidney Coy hit two singles, and Geith hit a ground-rule double.
