Three solo home runs and a stellar pitching performance by freshman Sam Parlich led Arizona State to a 3-0 victory over the Southern Utah University Thunderbirds on Sunday in the Kajikawa Classic.
Parlich recorded her first career win with a complete-game two-hitter. She struck out nine and faced just 23 batters, finishing the game by retiring the final 12 Thunderbirds in succession.
The Sun Devils (5-1), who were averaging 12 runs per game over the past three games, were held to five hits by SUU pitcher Kristina Brooks, but three of those were solo home runs.
Annie Lockwood broke the scoreless tie in the top of the fourth with a two-out homer to left. Lesley Rogers added to the lead with a solo shot in the fifth. Katelyn Boyd added one in the seventh, her third straight game with a home run. |
