Home runs and dominant pitching led the Cal Golden Bears to a 3-1 softball victory over the sixth ranked Sun Devils Friday night in Tempe.

Lindsay Ziegenhirt and Elia Reid each hit solo home runs to put the 16th-ranked Golden Bears on top. ASU’s Kaylyn Castillo hit an RBI-single to plate Lesley Rogers in the bottom of the first for the Devils’ lone run.

Hillary Bach limited Cal to five hits over seven innings but was unable to keep the ball in the yard. She received the loss and fell to 17-3 on the year.

Caylyn Carlson went 3-for-3 with a stolen base for the Sun Devils, and ASU had plenty of chances offensively, putting runners on base in six of the seven innings. However, the Sun Devils were unable to come through with clutch hits against Cal pitcher Jolene Henderson and left nine runners on base.

The Devils (35-7 overall, 4-3 in Pac 10) look to get back in the win column Saturday when they will host the Golden Bears (31-11, 2-5) in game two of the three game series.
